I was thinking it is a neat idea,  especially since the lens will be the part people will have to make more effort to acquire.  I think it would appeal a lot to people.

Considerations:

a) we have to tweak the template so it will be a better fit for more phones (like iphones) and find a mechanism to secure the phone so it doesn't slide

b)  adjust the template to accommodate people who wear  eyeglasses

c)  the magnet locations do not work for all phones so i consider magnets to be optional. dodo case now sells a kit with capacitive touch buttons


As for software,  I think Google cardboard is compatible with other stereoscopic software,  so this can be used on Android and iPhone.
