Hi all,
Reminder, the Southern California Linux Expo will be Feb 19-22 at the LAX Hilton.
ATTENDING
=========
If you want to go to SCALE, please note that registration prices are going up after January 15th. Currently it is $60, and the LUG promo code should give you a 50% discount. The LUG promo code this year is "SGVLG"
VOLUNTEERING
=============
If you are planning to volunteer at SCALE, your registration should be handled by your volunteer coordinator. As you may know, some of us volunteer with the A/V team. Contact me if you want to volunteer with us.
SCALE SPEAKERS
==============
They have selected their speakers, and the website has been updated, though I don't believe the list of presentations is complete.
I know some LUG members have been accepted as speakers this year. I see Rae Yip, Dustin Laurence, me, and Michael Starch on the list. I think Steven Doran was accepted too, but his presentation is not listed yet. If you will be speaking at SCALE, let us know.

INSTALLFEST
===========
One of the SCALE special events is a Linux Installfest + Training. If you are interested in this, you should make sure to register for the Training Class special event as opposed to the Full Expo pass. (However, you won't be able to use a promo code for this.)

SGVLUG/SGVHAK BOOTH
===================
SGVLUG/SGVHAK has a booth in the Exhibitor Hall this year. This will be Friday, Saturday, Sunday
We will be doing some show and tell and a little fundraising to cover expenses.
We will be talking more about SCALE at the next SGVHAK meeting this Thursday at 7pm. It will a joint meetup with Hackaday Projects and will be at the Hackaday Space. See Meetup notice for address.

If you're interested in helping out at the booth, please attend the meeting. We are thinking of things we could sell at the booth. Thanks to Tux-Lab, we can do things like make our own mugs or t-shirts. Tux-Lab also makes some nice Raspberry Pi and Arduino cases. We could demonstrate software or hardware projects and see if we can recruit more speakers for the LUG.
MUG DESIGN
==========
One of our ideas for the booth is to make our own cheatsheet mug ala Mug of Vi (www.nostarch.com/mug.htm). We encourage you to come up with your own cheatsheet mug designs that we can print at one of our HAK meetings. You can buy it for yourself for the cost of materials and a nominal fee. We will pick our favorites to sell at the booth.
The design should be 7.25"x3.25" when printed. It is recommended that you use Inkscape as scalar vector graphics are easier to scale than raster. But we will take SVG or PDF. Go crazy with color; Tux-Lab uses CYMK inks.
Please note that while it doesn't take very long to print the mugs, it does require a person to print the design, trim the paper, tape it to the mug, put it in the mug press, etc. So we will have the occasional HAK working meeting to make these mugs.
