Hi,

I have been really enjoying these HAK meetings. It's nice to have a place to work on stuff and be able to talk about stuff you're working on and hear about what other people are working on.

My projects today were pretty tame--install an SSD into my laptop and root my Nook Simple Touch--but they got done. This bodes well for the Mac mini and Shuttle computers I've been meaning to rebuild.

I heard Doug say something about an eye-tracking project. Perhaps he can post about that to the list.

Braddock has opened up his Raspberry Pi to anyone who is willing to dial up to it. My problem is that I don't have a landline. I have heard that it's possible to dial up using a cell phone. Can anyone point me to resources on this topic? I use GSM through
T-mobile.

Note for the larger group:

1) John (http://www.tux-lab.com/) has offered--okay, maybe I've been browbeating him--to show us around his workshop out in Temple City. He has made some pretty nice things like his open source bottle opener and the beautiful Arduino cases. I suggested a Saturday afternoon because it can be hard to meet up on a weeknight and his workshop is unheated. If you are interested, I suppose you can post to the list or e-mail me directly so we can coordinate a time to meet up and give John a sense of what we're interested in seeing. I would love to see how the Arduino cases are made.

2) Steven has volunteered to organize a HAK Bird of a Feather gathering at SCALE (http://www.socallinuxexpo.org/scale11x). SCALE is a Linux and Open Source conference, now in its 11th year, that will be held Feb 22-24th at the LAX Hilton. This would be a nice opportunity to
a)
socialize outside our usual meetings,
b) promote our group to a wider audience
c) meet up with other hackers and makers and hardware geeks.

3) If anyone has a good idea for a T-shirt design or anything like a logo or slogan, we could make some promotional items for members and as giveaways.

Lan
