Interesting. Well, if I can wake up early enough on Saturday, maybe I will go down there to visit the library and maybe get a new library card.

New Long Beach library will have a makerspace -

The library’s makerspace will include 3-D printers, design software, tablets and laptops, some of which will be available for borrowing.

The makerspace will be Long Beach’s second (the Main Branch library also has one) and will provide “everything from graphic design to music production and robotics classes, all offered for free, five days a week,” Kate Azar, executive director of the Long Beach Public Library Foundation, said.

More than a decade in the making, North Long Beach is getting its bigger, better library.

“The fences have come down, and people are finally able to see a full view of this library,” Vice Mayor Rex Richardson said.

And on Saturday, Sept. 10, the Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library, at 5870 Atlantic Ave., will have its grand opening. The 24,500-square-foot library will be dedicated at 10 a.m., with a ribbon cutting and opening day celebration to follow. Obama will not be in attendance that day, Richardson said, adding that the city is in communication with the White House about a potential visit by the First Lady in the future.
